Defense stands out in DSU Hornets first scrimmage

Dover, DE – After one week of pre-season drills, the DSU defense got the upper hand in the first pre-season scrimmage today at Alumni Stadium. “We are really rough around the edges and it showed this morning,” stated Hornets head coach Al Lavan.

In a short full scrimmage, the defensive unit took advantage and finished with two interceptions and four fumbles. Big for the day was sophomore’s Tyron Hurst (DT) and Brandon Hudson (CB) who had interception returns for 35 and 24 yards respectively. Senior place kicker Peter Gaertner added a 35 yard field goal to close out the scoring.

The bright spot on offense was junior quarterback Vashon Winton who completed four of four passes for 92 yards. The leading rushing for the day was Adam Shrewsbury who finish with four carries for 40 yards.
