Dickerson appointed to Sports Academy’s board of trustees


DAPHNE — The United States Sports Academy announced that Ron Dickerson, special advisor to the president for Development/State and Federal Relations at Alabama State University, has been elected to serve on the academy’s board of trustees.

Dickerson was unanimously appointed during a meeting of the board’s executive committee on August 9, 2007.

Dickerson worked at the academy from 2000-2004 as the chair of Sports Coaching.

His career includes tenures as head football coach at Alabama State University and Temple University.

Dickerson has served on several National Collegiate Athletic Association committees, including committees on degree completion, initial eligibility, football ethics and rules.

Dickerson was a member of the 1972 Miami Dolphins football team. He is a co-founder and the first president of the Black Coaches Association and a member of the player-selection committee of the East/West Shrine Football Game.

He is also a member of the national board of directors for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Dickerson was inducted into the All American Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 2003.

The United States Sports Academy is an independent, non-profit, accredited, special mission sports university.
