Burke County High School track and field star Shaniece Mells has been awarded a full scholarship to Alabama State University in Montgomery. The strong-armed Lady Bear consistently placed first in the shot put and discus throw in meets throughout the season. She went on to turn in Burke County's top performance at the state track meet, placing sixth in the shot put. Mells was also awarded the Coach's Award for the girls track and field team her senior year. She plans to major in physical therapy and will head to college next week. Mells was coached by Purvis Dukes at Burke County High School.
