MSU Bears Wrap-up First Preseason Tune-up

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Morgan State football team held their first scrimmage of the preseason Thursday evening, working for a little under two hours. The Bears offense scored two touchdowns on the ground.

Sophomore running back Devan James scored from two yards out, while All-MEAC running back Chad Simpson scored on an electric 17-yard touchdown dash. Sophomore defensive end Justin Lawrence recorded an interception and the defense collected eight sacks to help outlast the offfense in the controlled scrimmage.
Morgan State will open the 2007 season when they take to the gridiron to host non-conference opponent Savannah State. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Hughes Stadium.

NOTES

• The Bears held their first scrimmage of the preseason Thursday evening, working for a little under two hours
• There was no tackling of the quarterback in the controlled scrimmage
• Redshirt sophomore Gary Albury recorded two interceptions from his safety position
• Senior linebacker Kofi Nkrumah and freshman defensive lineman Sheldon Jacques recorded a sack apiece
• Preseason All-MEAC wideout Roderick Wolfe recorded two receptions forr 18 yards; Terrell White finished with three catches for 35 yards, while Edwin Baptiste had 33 yards on three receptions
Junior quarterback Mario Melton connected with redshirt sophomore Robert Surratt for a 30 yard completion, marking the longest play of the night.
