Savannah State releases 2007-08 women's basketball schedule

SAVANNAH, Ga. --- Savannah State head women's basketball coach Cedric Baker has released the Lady Tigers 2007-08 schedule. Savannah State will face a challenging 27-game regular season schedule, which includes 11 games at home.

SSU posted a 12-17 record last year and was recognized as one of 25 teams to make the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I 2006-07 Most Improved Women's Basketball Teams list. The list consist of 25 Division I teams who have improved their 2006-07 win records from 7.5 to 12.5 games.

Savannah State will take on Division I opponents from eight different conferences including the Atlantic Coast Conference and Southeastern Conference as well as schools who compete as Independents.

SSU's schedule includes two stretches in which the team will play four games on the road.

The Lady Tigers open the regular season November 16-17 in Sumter, South Carolina, competing in the Hornet Classic, along with Reinhardt, Voorhees and host Morris College.

SSU opens up a three-game home stand on November 20, hosting Florida A&M. South Carolina State visits Tiger Arena on Nov. 24 and Charleston Southern on Nov. 26. Savannah State hits the road for a four game road swing on Nov. 30 and don't return to Tiger Arena until December 22 and 28 when they take on Alabama State and Louisiana-Lafayette respectively.

In January, SSU will play six of its nine games on the road and in February, four of their seven games will be away from Tiger Arena.

Savannah State returns home February 20 to host North Florida, before entertaining New Jersey Tech on Feb. 23 in the regular season finale.

Highlighting the schedule will be home and home match-ups with Florida A&M, South Carolina State, Charleston Southern, Alabama State, North Florida, Coastal Carolina, Longwood and New Jersey Tech.

Other key games include road games with Texas El-Paso (Dec. 16), South Carolina (Jan. 6) and Georgia Tech (Feb. 11).
