Turnovers doom Lincoln in overtime loss to FSU Broncos

UPPER OXFORD, Pennsylvania – Nobody thought that resurrecting the Lincoln women’s basketball program would be an easy task, especially first-year coach Jessica Kern. But Thursday’s excruciating 70-68 overtime loss to Fayetteville State at Rivero Hall was an unfriendly reminder of the great difficultly ahead.

Just two days after showing a lot of fight against one of the top teams in the CIAA, the Lions struggled against an opponent also looking for its first league victory, then put on a late rally in regulation only to lose it in the OT with more sloppy play. The setback was the seventh in a row for Lincoln (0-4 in the CIAA Northern Division, 4-11 overall). Fayetteville State improves to 1-3, 7-6.

“For the morale of this program, we have to turn the corner against someone,” Kern said. “I am very happy with the effort. But the kids are deflated right now because we are so close.”
