MONTGOMERY, Alabama - Alabama State officials hope to finalize plans for the 2012 football season opener by the end of this week, discounting published reports that have the Hornets of the Southwestern Athletic Conference playing in the annual matchup against a school from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Labor Day weekend."I have entered into discussions with the (SWAC) office and commissioner Duer Sharp about Alabama State participating in the ... Challenge," Danley said on Friday. "However, as of today, I have not received nor signed a contract committing us to that game."
