Seasoned GSU set to start baseball season

GRAMBLING, Louisiana  --  Grambling lost the Southwestern Athletic Conference's top hitter in Thomas Brown, but fortunately for the Tigers, they happen to return the league's second-best hitter this season.

Senior infielder Elias Todman, named the SWAC preseason offensive player of the year, leads a veteran Grambling baseball team attempting to make its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2010, coach James Cooper's first season.

GSU had the SWAC's best batting average at .288, and Todman (.344 and 43 RBIs) leads a lineup that returns four of their top seven hitters.

Seniors Darren Farmer (.314 and 39 RBIs), Jose Longoria (.340 and 33 RBIs) and Hector Mejias (.258 and 30 RBIs) provide the core of a team that finished third in the SWAC West (22-26, 13-10) in 2012.
