Signing Day: Comegy, Jackson State hits magic number of 19

JACKSON, Mississippi  --  Rick Comegy was halfway down the hallway at the T.B. Ellis Annex when he stopped, turned, and asked a coach, “How many?”

When informed that Jackson State had received 19 letters of intent Wednesday — better known as National Signing Day — matching the number of scholarships they had sent out earlier that morning, Comegy grinned, turned and headed for the office.

“Not bad,” he said.

JSU signed 19 to its 2013 recruiting class, a number that fell right in line with Comegy’s hope of between 18 and 20. More importantly, it filled some of the Tigers’ most glaring needs.

“That shows we’re going in the right direction and we’re going to make this thing happen,” Comegy said. “It’s a good class. It’s hard to measure sometimes, but I know we have some tough, hard-nosed kids in there.”
