NCAA: Southern has “significant amount of work” to complete

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- The postseason ban on Southern’s athletic programs is indefinite until the NCAA determines that the data on student-athletes’ academic performance submitted by the university is usable.

The NCAA said Thursday that the ongoing process of providing usable data requires that “a significant amount of work be completed before NCAA postseason eligibility can be restored.”

The fate of the Jaguars teams rests with the Data Collection and Reporting Subcommittee of the Committee on Academic Performance.

NCAA spokesperson Michelle Brutlag Hosick responded by e-mail to The Advocate’s request for comment on the ban, which was instituted in early December and became public knowledge last Thursday.
