Gold Nuggets still receiving votes in NAIA coaches poll

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana received more support Tuesday in the NAIA Division I women's basketball coaches poll but still fell short of the top 25.

The Gold Nuggets (10-10, 3-1 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference) collected 14 points and are 29th overall. They needed 56 points to reach the top 25. Xavier received nine points and was 31st one week ago.

Xavier is out of the top 25 for the third consecutive poll after ranking 18th in the preseason and 19th on Dec. 9.

Freed-Hardeman, defending champion Oklahoma City and Campbellsville rank 1-2-3 for the third consecutive week. Freed-Hardeman received 9-of-10 first-place votes to earn the top spot for the fourth straight poll.

Xavier lost 73-43 at home Monday to SUNO and will play its next game at 3 p.m. EST Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla., against Edward Waters. The next XU home game will be Feb. 2.
