Bethune-Cookman hoping for convincing win over FAMU, postseason opportunity

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- Bethune-Cookman’s chances of making it to the Celebration Bowl are all but gone, but Wildcats coach Terry Sims admits the potential consolation to not making it isn’t all that bad.

If B-CU (8-2) can beat Florida A&M (1-9) in Saturday’s Florida Classic, slated to be played at 2:30 p.m. at the Citrus Bowl, it could put itself in the running for an at-large bid to the FCS playoffs.

“That’s not bad at all,” Sims said. “As I’ve said all this week, ‘I just want to continue to play Saturday. That’s our goal as a team. If it’s the Celebration Bowl, let’s go play. If it’s the playoffs, let’s go play."

The Celebration Bowl — the Dec. 19 showdown between the MEAC and SWAC conference champions — isn’t completely out of the question.

It’s just a big-time longshot.
