JSU Rutland must earn QB job

Comegy nixes automatic promotion from backup to starter for ex-MSU Bulldog.

Tray Rutland, arguably, has been the most talked about player on the Jackson State football team since transferring from Mississippi State after the 2006 season. Among fans he often was the center of debate whether he or Jimmy Oliver should quarterback the Tigers during the 2007 season.

Oliver, ultimately, won that battle, emerging as the most important individual performer in JSU's charge to its first Southwestern Athletic Conference championship since 1996. But Oliver is gone.
