JACKSON, Miss. – The Alabama State Men's basketball won its eighth game in succession with a 63-53 victory over Jackson State. It was a significant game in regards to seeding for the Southwestern Athletic Tournament. ASU (14-16, 11-6) now moves into third place in the standings. JSU falls to 15-14 overall and 11-6 in the conference.
ASU forced the Tigers into its lowest scoring output in conference play “We wanted to make them take tough shots”. Head coach Lewis Jackson said. We fought hard on the boards, made our free throws when they counted, and that was the difference”.
Two months ago in the conference opener, JSU prevailed in overtime 58-52. ASU missed 21 free throws in that game.
Tyrone Hansen entered the contest for JSU as the third leading scorer in SWAC. Despite 14 first half points from Hanson, ASU only trailed by two points at halftime 30-28. Hansen would go on to score a game high 21 points.

With the loss JSU falls to a 15-14 overall record and an 11-6 conference mark. Alabama State improves to a 14-16, 11-6 record.
Tyrone Hanson came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points to lead JSU. Jenirro Bush followed with 11 points. Tremayne Moorer led ASU with 16 points and Chris Duncan added 10.
