Union, State meet again in NYC

RICHMOND, Virginia - Virginia State and Virginia Union are 26 miles apart on I-95, a quick 30-minute drive from the north side of Richmond to Ettrick.

But today, the CIAA rivals head more than 300 miles north to New York City, where they will play at 3 p.m. at Madison Square Garden in the annual Big Apple Classic.



For the past few years, VUU and VSU have met every December in New York and every January in the Freedom Classic at the Richmond Coliseum. That means they always face each other on a neutral court. Despite their proximity, Union and State haven't played against each other at either team's home site since Feb. 7, 2004.
