ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - The Lady Hawks (3-8) will open the new year with a Monday matchup against Elizabeth City State on the road, facing the Lady Vikings (5-4) at 6:00 p.m. at the R.L. Vaughn Center. This will be UMES's seventh straight road contest and final non-conference match on the nine-game road trip.

UMES head coach Fred Batchelor was at the helm of Elizabeth City State for two years before taking over the Lady Hawks, leading the Lady Vikings to a third place CIAA finish his second season.

• SERIES HISTORY: UMES, a former Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association school, and Elizabeth City State, a current CIAA institution, have not faced each other in over three decades. Before coming to UMES, Fred Batchelor coached the Lady Vikings for two seasons, taking ESCU to a third place CIAA finish in his final year.

• SCOUTING THE LADY VIKINGS: Elizabeth City State stands at 5-4, including 2-0 at home. ESCU has faced two Division-I teams, defeating Norfolk State in an exhibition contest 76-74 and falling in its last game against William & Mary 81-70. Junior point guard Shatara Jackson is the team’s leading scorer with 19.3 points and 3.1 assists a contest. Stephanie Harper, junior forward, averages a double-double, earning 15.1 points and 11.1 rebounds each game.
