FAMU track team makes regional poll

TALLAHASSEE, Florida  -  A shiny trophy on the top rung of a shelf in his office is the most obvious evidence that Wayne Angel can point to as proof he is making headway in his plans to turn around the Florida A&M men's track team.

The Rattlers won the prize with a second-place finish in the MEAC cross-country championships last year.



The FAMU 4x400m relay team used a strong anchor leg by Elijah Owens to win the race at the 2012 Gator Invite at the O'Connell Center on the campus of the University of Florida on Jan. 22, 2012.

There is something else that's further proof that things are changing for the Rattlers, as they head into the stretch run of the indoor season. The team is ranked 10th in the South Region of the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association's poll.

It's a first for the program since the coaches began to release the weekly poll a few years ago.
