Prairie View perseveres under Wilson

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- Toyelle Wilson continued an amazing start to her head coaching career when she led the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team to its second consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament title Saturday in Garland.

This championship, however, might mean more to the second-year coach considering the circumstances that led to it.

The Panthers (17-15) went through the year without their former leading scorer and SWAC Freshman of the Year Siarra Soliz, who left the program in the offseason for personal reasons. They had only eight players in their rotation by season's end, with two freshmen in the starting lineup. Prairie View struggled to a 14-15 record, finished 11-7 in the SWAC and entered the conference tournament as the No. 5 seed.
