Winston-Salem State Picked To Repeat As CIAA Champs

HAMPTON, Virginia  -  The CIAA has released the 2012 All-CIAA Football Preseason team and Predicted Order of finish as voted on by the CIAA Football Coaches Association, and the Winston-Salem State University Rams were picked to repeat as CIAA Southern Division Champions and to repeat as CIAA Champions.

This year's press conference featured the 2012 season theme, "One Century Down," a tribute to the continued celebration of the conference's 100th Anniversary.



"We had a great run last season", says third year head coach, Connell Maynor. "But last season is last season. We can't live off of that. That season is over and we have to work to prepare for those teams in front of us this season, and that starts with UNC-Pembroke", says Maynor.

The WSSU Rams placed seven (7) players on the preseason All-CIAA team. The WSSU contingent is led by senior quarterback, Kameron Smith (5-11, 190, Sr, Garner, NC), who was the All-CIAA quarterback in 2011, as he passed for 2,706 yards and 33 touchdowns, while rushing for 226 yards and two scores.
