Grambling doesn't see Saturday's game as a 'must-win'

GRAMBLING, Louisiana - Grambling has shifted in and out of Southwestern Athletic Conference play for the first three weeks of the 2012 season.

Given that this is Week 3 of the season, it means the Tigers are back in conference play as they kick off their home schedule tonight against Alabama State at 6 at Eddie Robinson Stadium.

“It’s unfortunate, and I said this when I got back last year at one of the conference meetings, it’s unfortunate that the conference stepped in and did the scheduling for us,” Tigers coach Doug Williams said. “For many years, the schedule was basically in place. We’ve always played Alcorn early, but we wouldn’t have played them on Labor Day weekend. We always played Jackson (State) on that Oct. 23, Oct. 25 area. It messes up the natural rivalries we have. Sure you’d like to have a couple of games under your belt (before you play conference games).”
