BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - Southern University Athletics Director William Broussard announced football coach Stump Mitchell has been reassigned to administrative duties, effective immediately.
Defensive Coordinator Dawson Odums has been named the interim head coach of the Jaguars, who lost 6-0 at home against Mississippi Valley State last night in a game which was shown live on ESPNU.
Valley was coming off a 29-7 loss on the road against Alabama State. The Delta Devils had only four days prepare for Southern, which had a bye in Week 2.
Broussard declined to disclose any details concerning Mitchell's new role.
"Last night's contest was disappointing," Broussard said. "It was disappointing to players and coaches but there were other factors as well."
