TSU downs rival Prairie View in nailbiter

HOUSTON, Texas - It came down to the last few seconds — time Texas Southern shouldn't have had.

Tied 41-41 with Prairie View A&M, the Tigers benefited from a late-starting clock on their final drive, giving them just enough time to set up a 47-yard field goal attempt for senior Robert Hersh.

The kick sailed through the uprights with no time left, lifting the Tigers to their first win over the rival Panthers in six years, 44-41 in the Labor Day Classic on Saturday night in front of 21,562 fans at Reliant Stadium.




"It's incredible," TSU quarterback Riko Smalls said. "It's a long time overdue, but we've got to enjoy this win and then focus on our next opponent."

The win was big for TSU coach Darrell Asberry, who made his debut.
