Tuskegee 45, Lane College 17: Golden Tigers take care of business early

TUSKEGEE, Alabama -- It was a home opener everyone could enjoy. Coach Willie Slater’s offense scored early and often enough, the defense turned turnovers into points and the second and third-string players were able to see significant action over the final two quarters of Saturday’s matchup against Lane College.

Now who could complain with results like that?

Derrick Washington scored three rushing touchdowns and safety William Buford had a pair of interceptions to spotlight a dominating first-half performance in Tuskegee’s 45-17 convincing victory over Lane in the SIAC opener for both schools.

“I thought the effort was really good, especially in the first half,” Slater said. “(Going up big) makes it fun at halftime, that’s for sure. We just wanted to maintain our composure coming out in the second half. I would’ve liked it if we could’ve continued drives (after the half).”
