NEW ORLEANS -- Senior guard April Perry scored 26 points Monday -- 18 in the second half -- to lead SUNO to a 63-56 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference women's basketball victory over NAIA No. 9 Xavier University of Louisiana at XU's Convocation Center.
The Lady Knights (8-2, 3-1 GCAC) ended the 23-game GCAC home win streak of the Gold Nuggets (12-4, 2-2). Xavier had not lost at home to a conference opponent since February 2009.
Perry reached 25 points or more for the third consecutive game. Janee Morton scored 12 points for SUNO.
SiMon Franklin scored 15 points and Whitney Gaston-Loyd 12 for Xavier.
SUNO led 29-22 at halftime and did not lose the lead thereafter.
The Gold Nuggets' next game will start at 2 p.m. Saturday against Philander Smith at the Convocation Center. It will be the second game of a doubleheader, following an XU-Philander men's game which will tip off at noon.
