Chiles grad West leaves FAMU baseball program

TALLAHASSEE, Florida  --  Dylan West just felt it was time to try to get to where his heart has always been – playing for a major-college baseball program.

He left the FAMU baseball program in August, figuring that the risk is worth the reward.

“That was one of the biggest things that me and my family talked about,” West said, speaking publicly for the first time about his decision Monday night. “This is going to be a very high risk.”

West, who has to sacrifice a full season to make his move, said he hopes to realize a longtime dream and make the FSU baseball team as a walk-on. He enrolled at FSU last August and would have one year of eligibility left.

His move left the Rattlers without one of their top hitters. Last season, he batted .315 with a slugging percentage of .385. He also hit a home run and was second on the team in runs batted in with 16.
