Shaw University Releases 2013 Football Schedule

RALEIGH, North Carolina  --  Shaw University's football team will open its 2013 season with a home contest against Charleston (WV) on September 7 it was announced today.  In all, the Bears will play ten contests - four of them at home.

"The schedule is certainly a challenge," said Shaw Head Football Coach Robert Massey.  "Our early games should give us a real insight into where we are and provide outstanding preparation for our CIAA competition."

After opening against Charleston, the Bears travel to Virginia Union in a non-conference matchup on September 14.  The following week, Shaw heads to Wilmington, N.C., where they will face UNC-Pembroke in the Cape Fear Classic.

Conference play gets underway on October 12 when the Bears will conclude their three-game road trip with a game at Chowan.

They return home on October 5 to host Virginia State, then travel to Fayetteville State to begin CIAA Southern Division play.

Shaw's homecoming matchup features Livingstone on October 19.  The Bears take to the road for two straight weeks - facing Johnson C. Smith and Winston-Salem State - before closing out the season at home against Saint Augustine's on November 9.

Last season - the first under Massey - the Bears finished 4-6, 3-4 in the CIAA
