Slater gives Tuskegee signing day class a C+

TUSKEGEE, Alabama  --  The Tuskegee Golden Tigers signed 15 recruits on national signing day, hoping to build strength in the trenches and help replace the production from star running back Derrick Washington. The Golden Tigers grabbed six defensive linemen and two offensive linemen.

They also signed three running backs.

“I like the group that signed with us,” Tuskegee football coach Willie Slater said. “I think it’s a good group. We got a couple of offensive linemen that I really like, a couple of defensive linemen that I really like, and a couple of running backs.”

Both of the offensive linemen, Jebri Cole and Jamil McKenzie are from junior college and are expected to make immediate impacts. Cole is a 6-foot-3, 310-pounder from Northwest Community College in Meridian, Miss. and McKenzie, listed at 6-2, 290 pounds, is from Louisburg Community College in Greenville, S.C.
