TSU Lady Tigers move to 12-1 in SWAC play after defeating UAPB

HOUSTON, Texas  --  The Texas Southern Lady Tigers won their twelfth straight game capturing a 63-59 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff at H&PE Arena. It was a total team effort as Kayla West and Te’era Williams combined to form the one-two scoring punch TSU needed to grind out the win.

West hit 7-of-8 attempts from the free throw line and dished out two assists. Williams scored some much needed buckets over the course of the contest as she went 3-of-6 overall while pulling down three rebounds and distributing six assists leading her team.

Texas Southern got 12 points off the bench as they collectively shot 38 percent from the floor as a team. Arkansas-Pine Bluff shot 37 percent but struggled to get quality looks down the stretch due to Texas Southern’s stifling defense.

“It’s all about playing a full 40 minutes each game,” said TSU head coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke. “The game of basketball requires you to go all out every second that the game is in play. Our players fought through some adversity tonight but overall I’m really proud of how we competed out there the entire game.”

Arkansas-Pine Bluff managed to take a brief lead midway through the second half but the Lady Tigers were relentless as they battled back to take a 59-58 advantage at the 1:44 mark of the half. Texas Southern wouldn’t trail again from that point as they held on for the victory at home.
