NASHVILLE, Tennessee -
The Tennessee State men's and women's track and field teams each had strong
showings at the TSU Invite on Saturday. The Flying Tigers and Tigerbelles
combined for 11 victories and 24 top-three finishes.
Ashontae Jackson was the first Tigerbelle to
finish in first by winning the Long Jump with a final of 5.85 meters. Teammate
Clairwin Dameus was not far behind with a leap of
5.73 meters, putting her in third place.
Not
to be outdone, Royce Dates won the Long Jump for the Flying
Tigers with a hop of 7.19 meters and Daryl Rice picked up a third-place medal with a
jump of 6.43 meters.
Next came the women's Triple Jump where the Tigerbelles overwhelmed their competition with Ja'Lyn Burr (12.12 meters), Felicia Oladakun (11.62 meters) and Amber Townsend (11.54 meters) finishing first through third.
Britani Logan won the women's shot put (13.68
meters) while Alex Griffin (13.96 meters) and Lester Blanton (12.63 meters) finished second and
third, respectively, for the men's team.
In
the 55-meter men's hurdles, Jason Griffin and Shawn Harris led all other hurdlers with times of
7.89 and 7.92 seconds.
The
Tigerbelles also performed well in the dashes, as Quanisha Sales won the 55-meter and 200-meter
with a times of 7.01 and 25.20 seconds while Jackson (56.72) and Gabrielle Todd (57.47) placed second and third in
the 400-meter.
Jackson and Todd later teamed with Jasmine
Owens and Breanna Adams to capture first-place in the 4x400
meter relay with a time of 3:47.18.
The
Flying Tigers also came out victorious in the 4x400, as the team of Lamonte Burton, Osafa Hippolyte, Michael Johnson and Jamill Jackson won the event with a time of
3:20.03.
Jackson also won the men's 800-meter run by
nearly three seconds, finishing with a time of 1:56.11.
The
squads will travel to Middle Tennessee State on Feb. 9 before wrapping up the
Indoor Season with the OVC Tournament on Feb. 22.
