WSSU teams ready for CIAA basketball tournament

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina  --  Defending champion Winston-Salem State, the seventh-ranked team in Division II, will play in a quarterfinal game on Thursday against Virginia Union at 3 p.m. in the CIAA Tournament.

The CIAA Tournament will begin Tuesday at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte.

The WSSU women, the third seed out of the Southern Division, will play a first-round game on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Bowie State.

The WSSU men are coming off a 60-55 loss to Livingstone on Saturday night and despite not being a top seed are still considered a favorite to repeat.

Guard Justin Glover says the Rams, who have been ranked all season, are still the team to beat despite the loss on Saturday that gave the Blue Bears the Southern Division title.

“We’re still confident,” Glover said. “This loss set us back a little but we’ll regroup and come out ready to play in the tournament.”
