TUSKEGEE, Alabama -- The Tuskegee Golden Tigerettes, who once won 16 consecutive games in the regular season before losing in the quarterfinals of the SIAC tournament to Fort Valley State, have been selected to participate in the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship, beginning Friday afternoon on the campus of Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. As the No. 2 seed in the South region, Tuskegee (19-7 overall) will square off against the University of Alabama-Huntsville in the opening round, which will be played Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. local time (1:30 p.m.).
The No. 7 Lady Chargers is a team the Tigerettes are familiar with. Tuskegee earned its second win of the season over UAH by a 73-49 margin on the road inside Spragins Hall on Nov. 11. Even though it currently only has an overall record of 15-16, Alabama-Huntsville played its' way into the NCAA Tournament by winning the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
The two teams UAH defeated in the Gulf South tournament await the winner of Tuskegee's first game.
