CIAA Notes: New Lincoln coach has much to learn

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina  --  After taking over a 1-9 team, Ramon Flanigan has modest goals for his first season as Lincoln’s coach.

He simply wants to learn his players’ names.

Flanigan was hired to replace the fired O.J. Abanishe on April 29. Abanishe went 8-42 over five seasons after being hired to reboot a program that was discontinued in 1960. Lincoln joined the CIAA three years ago.

The process to replace Abanishe was bogged down because of internal issues. That resulted in Flanigan’s being interviewed for the job a week after spring practices ended.

Flanigan, who had been the offensive coordinator at Mississippi Valley State, was hired and arrived at the Lincoln campus a day before his players left for summer break.
