Hampton U. football ready to contend after difficult season

NORFOLK, Virginia  --  Outwardly, Donovan Rose appeared the same as ever: fit, trim, engaging, good natured. Internally, however, he feels like a man unchained.

Hampton University's head football coach enters the 2013 season, the fifth at his alma mater, again on a level playing field with his competitors.

He feels good about his staff and his personnel, and particularly about the Pirates' ability to prepare to compete each week.

"I feel revived," Rose said Friday at Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference media day. "I feel that everything I went through is for a purpose. It made me better."
