FAMU football: Rattlers hit field in full stride

TALLAHASSEE, Florida  --  The satisfaction that Earl Holmes felt as the first day of practice was winding down was obvious Tuesday afternoon. He paced the sidelines with a proud grin, surveying each unit of the FAMU football team as position coaches ran them through technique drills.

“This is where you build a house; you’ve got to lay down the foundation,” said Holmes, who is in his first season as head coach at his alma mater.

There was no hitting, just players methodically executing every move their coaches commanded. The workout would become more intense over the next 25 days that the Rattlers have before opening the season on Sept. 1 against Mississippi Valley State.
