Lane College Burroughs expects to coach a winner

JACKSON, Tennessee  -- It wasn’t long ago Lane football wasn’t much fun. Derrick Burroughs arrived ahead of the 2010 season, and his first year was rough. The Dragons didn’t win a game.

They won four games, though, in 2011. They won five last year.

Burroughs joked around with players at this month’s Media Day, but he generally maintains a businesslike demeanor.

He relished Lane’s landmark wins during his tenure, but he never celebrated long. A good day here or there is not his idea of success.

Burroughs expects the Dragons to contend for an SIAC title, he’s annoyed no one else in the league thinks they will (they were picked next to last in the West), and he believes if players achieve what’s hoped of them Lane is on its way to a great season.

“No team really scares me. We don’t fear anybody,” he said.
