MEAC teams seek more than paycheck: Respect on line in big games

TALLAHASSEE, Florida -- You hear it every football season around this time, when FBS programs take on smaller FCS schools. The smaller teams often dismiss the underdog role.

“We are just going to go out, play hard and hit hard,” said FAMU linebacker Bobby Jackson, responding to a question earlier this week about Saturday’s game against Ohio State.

Savannah State, one of three MEAC teams that will face off against FBS opponents this weekend, has been written off as an easy win for Miami since the day that the game was announced.

“We are by no means going in there to lie down,” said Earnest Wilson, who is in his first season as head coach at Savannah State.

Of course, the other big-against-small match-up of interest pits FSU against Bethune-Cookman.
