HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- With an eye to the future, Alabama A&M director of athletics Bryan Hicks made a decision that he said was in "our best interest" in choosing not to renew the contract of head football coach Anthony Jones."After looking over the program as a whole I made the decision that we just wanted to go in a different direction with the program," Hicks said Monday morning in an exclusive 17-minute interview with The Alabama Media Group/The Huntsville Times. "I looked at everything. I looked at everything. And after looking at everything, our best interest to where we want to go in the future would be going ahead and making a change in direction."
Jones was informed Sunday of the decision and it was announced to local media via an email press release.
