National Signing Day: MVSU football makes it official with recruits

ITTA BENA, Mississippi  -- The Rick Comegy era at Mississippi Valley State is officially underway with the start of National Signing Day. The new head coach has inked brought in a new crop of student-athletes with more on the way.

Signees are listed below. The list will be updated throughout the week.

Nelson Hale (DT, 6-1, 265, Pensacola, Fla., Pensacola Catholic HS) Finished with 102 tackles and five sacks, two forced fumbles during senior year for team that finished 12-1

Also lettered in baseball at Godby HS
  • 2013 All-Big Bend Second Team
  • Had offers from Memphis, Georgia State and Middle Tennessee, among others
Javon O'Neal (WR/DB, 6-1, 185, Tallahassee, Fla., Godby HS)

Also lettered in track and field at Godby HS
  • Had offers from Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, Kent State and Southern Miss, according to Scout.com
  • Played in the Georgia-Florida War of the Border All-Star game; scored Florida's lone touchdown on a 45-yard punt return
