Hampton U. Lady Pirates earn 12 seed, make MEAC history
HAMPTON, Virginia (WAVY) – The routine was almost the same as it’s been for the previous four years. The result is what Hampton University and its fans have been waiting for.
On Monday afternoon, a packed student center on Hampton’s campus, filled with cheering students, fans, faculty, administrative, and family members rose as one and applauded the Lady Pirates who earned a 12-seed in the upcoming NCAA women’s basketball tournament.
The seed is the highest ever awarded to a men’s or a women’s basketball team from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Needless to say, Hampton’s head coach is happy his team finally received the respect they deserved.
