NASHVILLE, Tennessee -- Tennessee State hurdler and sprinter Amber Hughes was named the Outdoor Female
Freshman of Year by the Ohio Valley Conference office on Thursday.
Hughes, a native
of Atlanta, Ga., notched the second-fastest time in the league in the 100-meter
hurdles (13.56) and placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.87). The
Tigerbelles are also first in the conference in the 4x100 and 4x400 relay
events.
The award is the
second of its type this year for Hughes, as she was named Female Freshman of the
year following the Indoor Season.
Hughes becomes
just the second TSU track and field member to win OVC Outdoor Freshman of the
Year, following Dominique Ward who took home the inaugural title in
2005.
The Tigerbelles
and Flying Tigers will next travel to SIUE on May 2-3 for the conference outdoor
championship.
