Hot Shooting Steers ECSU Vikings Past St. Augs 79-70

ELIZABETH CITY, North Carolina -- Glenn Patterson led all scorers with a game high 21 points as the Elizabeth City State Vikings toppled Saint Augustine's University Saturday afternoon at the RL Vaughan Center.

ECSU continued their hot shooting ways in Saturday's win connecting on 55% of their attempts from the field (25-45). Of their 25 made field goals, the Vikings drained 12 from beyond the three point arc including 7 of 11 attempts in the second half to close out the game.

The Vikings trailed by 8 with 11:32 to go in the first half but battled back to take a 37-33 lead at halftime.

ECSU would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way but despite taking a double digit advantage, found themselves up by a single point, 61-60, after a three-pointer by Raheem Jolliffe with 7:20 left in the game. The Vikings then caught fire with an 18-6 run and capped by a three-pointer by Miykael Faulcon took their largest lead of the game, a thirteen point spread (79-66),with just 1:51 left.

Faulcon and Darrell Ward finished with 13 apiece for the Vikings. The Falcons (6-5, CIAA 0-1) were paced by Jolliffe who finished with a team high 18 points.

ECSU (9-6, CIAA 2-0) will host Fayetteville State University on Saturday at 7:30pm at
the RL Vaughan Center.
