N.C. Central comes back to defeat Hampton U. 59-52

HAMPTON, Virginia -- Hampton University didn’t need much for what would have been a signature win – a couple of shots, a few defensive stops..

Instead, the Pirates squandered an opportunity at home for the second time in three days, this time against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference defending champs.

North Carolina Central weathered foul trouble and ghastly play, regrouping in the second half for a 59-52 win Monday at the HU Convocation Center.

“We said that we wanted to try to disrupt the rhythm of what they do,” HU coach Ed Joyner Jr., said. “We were able to do that the first half. The second half, it got away from us.”

N.C. Central (14-5, 6-0 MEAC) won its eighth consecutive game and sits alone in first place after a weekend trip to Hampton Roads in which it squeezed past Norfolk State on Saturday and the Pirates two nights later.
