TSU Tigers Cap Week Two With Scrimmage

NASHVILLE, Tennessee -- The Tennessee State football team concluded the second week of spring practices with a Saturday scrimmage at Hale Stadium.

The defense looked ahead of its counterpart on a sunny, yet brisk morning. Many of TSU’s attempted running plays were blown up in the backfield and Marvin Maddox provided multiple sacks for the unit. Dell Porter recovered a botched hand-off for a fumble and Javon Brandon supplied the other turnover of the day courtesy of an easy interception.

On offense, Marcus Deanes provided the most production from the running back position. The redshirt freshman had multiple medium-sized runs and even caught the day’s only touchdown out of the backfield.

Both quarterbacks looked equal on Saturday, but Oshay Ackermann-Carter led the only touchdown drive that was set up by a deep pass to Chris Sanders-McCollum. Other notables on offense included Patrick Smith who caught a couple of outside passes and Rodney Morriswho had big gains off of drag routes.

The team will return to the practice field on Monday at 4 p.m. and will end the week with a scrimmage under the lights of Hale Stadium on Thursday at 7 p.m.
