The Bulldogs improve to 4-3 overall, 3-1 in the MEAC, while Hornets remain winless at 0-7, 0-4 in the MEAC. Freshman quarterback Caleb York sparked the offense with his third 200-yard or more passing performance on the day.
"It was a good win for us," said a happy and excited Buddy Pough after the game. "We got off to another fast start, taking advantage of some outstanding play by our special teams. (Tevin) Richard made some great plays for us early that got us two quick scores. He's fun to watch out there, and we had some other players to make some good plays us as well.
"Caleb (York) did a good job in the passing game," continued the Bulldog head coach. "We thought coming in we would have to put a lot on his shoulder as we were concerned about a couple of their players on their defensive line bottling up our running game. He came through for us, as did our receivers. But, we still have a lot of work to do and we just need to keep getting better every week."
York finished with a game-high 17-of-28 for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Taquan West had his best outing of the season with nine (9) catches for 113 yards. Redshirt freshman Lynard Jamison dazzled the crowd once again for the second straight week with three (3) catches for 93-yards and a touchdown.
Senior reserve linebacker Tevin Richards highlighted the special teams with five (5) tackles, two (2) forced fumbles which led to a 10-yard touchdown run and two block punts.
The defense was spearheaded by All-American defensive lineman Javon Hargrave with eight (8) tackles, three (3) sacks, four (4.0) tackles for loss for 24-yards and one forced fumble.
NEXT UP: The Bulldogs return home to celebrate "Homecoming 2015" when they host the visiting Pirates of Hampton University at O.C. Dawson Stadium. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m.
