ASU coach Brian Jenkins collapses after Magic City Classic victory
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Alabama State coach Brian Jenkins collapsed before doing a postgame interview after Alabama State's 35-20 victory over rival Alabama A&M in the Magic City Classic at Legion Field.
ASU sports information director Darrell Orand said Jenkins, 44, was dehydrated. Orand added that Jenkins was put on IVs and drank fluids in the locker room after dropping to the ground against the wall. Jenkins was conscious when sitting on the ground.
"He's going to be alright," said ASU senior linebacker Kourtney Berry after Jenkins was taken in the locker room.
After the game, ASU players were doing interviews in the stadium near the locker room. Jenkins came out to do his interview and was holding his upper leg and bending forward in obvious pain.
Seconds later, Jenkins suddenly fell as he was surrounded by media ready to interview the first-year ASU coach.
