Former WSSU coach’s case dismissed

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina -- Jason Mai, a former assistant coach at Winston-Salem State, had a domestic dispute case against him dismissed Friday.

Mai, 34, was arrested in October after his ex-wife, Amanda Jean Garnett, called police and accused him of pushing her against a wall.

Mai was suspended by WSSU for the final two games of the season and was fired in December.

The school gave no reason for Mai being let go. At the time of the firing, athletics director Tonia Walker said only that Mai was “no longer employed by the university” and that it was “a personnel matter.”

The case was set to be heard Dec. 11, 2015, but the arresting officer didn’t appear and it was moved to Friday.
