Southern defense dominates Alabama State in SWAC opener

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- Questions surrounded Southern’s defense Saturday night when it faced Alabama State.

By the fourth quarter, the only question that remained was whether Southern would pick up its first shutout since 2013. Southern settled for a 64-6 win and the satisfaction of playing a complete game.

“We’re all coming together as one,” SU cornerback Danny Johnson said. “That’s why we take it day by day. We struggled a little bit in the first two games but we’ve come together. It makes us better.”
