Wood joins Dodgers as head trainer in Dominican League

NEW ORLEANS — The Los Angeles Dodgers have hired Xavier University of Louisiana's Allison Wood as head athletic trainer of the Dodgers' two teams in the Dominican Summer League.

Wood began Jan. 15 her duties in the Dominican Republic with the Dodgers' international winter specialized programs.

"Working in pro baseball has been my dream for 12 years," Wood said. "Baseball is very technical and individual. I love the nuances. I miss my staff and athletes at Xavier, but I'm grateful for this opportunity with the Los Angeles Dodgers."

Wood arrived at XULA in April 2014 as athletic trainer, and her primary coverage was with teams in women's volleyball, women's basketball and men's and women's tennis, plus the spirit groups.

XULA will announce soon a replacement for Wood. Mark Armour, who joined XULA as an athletic trainer in July 2015, remains on staff. XULA athletic trainer positions are part of the partnership between XULA Athletics and Ochsner Health System's sports medicine division.
