Nuggets set school mark; Rush fall to No. 9 D2 team

PENSACOLA, Florida — Xavier University of Louisiana women's tennis defeated Valdosta State 5-1 Saturday to set a school record with its 12th consecutive victory.
     

The XULA men lost 5-3 to Valdosta State, ranked ninth in NCAA Division II.
     

The 2013 XULA women held the old record of 11 consecutive victories. The Gold Nuggets (15-7), ranked fourth in the NAIA, tied the record by winning at home Thursday against William Carey.

The Gold Rush (10-10), ranked third, have dropped two straight duals for the first time since February. The XULA men had won 9-of-12 prior to Saturday.
     
Valdosta State's women are 6-12, and its men are 14-3.
     

Both XULA teams will visit West Florida at noon Sunday. The UWF women are 23-2 and ranked second in NCAA Division II; the men are 20-2, ranked sixth and have won 10 straight.
