All-state honors for 3, including Borodii on 1st team

NEW ORLEANS — For the second time in three years, Xavier University of Louisiana has three student-athletes earning All-Louisiana honors in tennis from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
     
Mariia Borodii was selected to the women's first team, and Charlene Goreau made the second team. Catalin Fifea was voted to the men's second team.
     
A panel of tennis publicists from Louisiana universities selected the All-Louisiana teams, and the LSWA announced the awards this past weekend.



Borodii, a freshman from Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, is the first Gold Nugget on the first team since Nour Abbes in 2015. Goreau, a junior from Toulouse, France, made the second team for the second time in three seasons. Goreau was honorable mention a year ago.
     
Fifea, a senior from Bucharest, Romania, earned All-Louisiana after receiving honorable mention in 2017.
     
Both XULA teams reached the semifinals of the NAIA National Championships in May and were No. 3 in the final coaches polls.
